...There are many ways to lose weight, but can you really lick away the unwanted pounds and keep them off for good? One woman said she did with an unusual kind of lollipop called Power Pops.

With 28 calories, no fat, amino acids, vitamins and just four carbs, the Power Pops are said to help knock off weight. They come in eight flavors including cherry, root beer, butter pecan and pina colada. The main ingredient is Hoodia, grown for hundreds of years in South Africa.

Missy Worcester is a life skills coach who had packed on more than 100 pounds while caring for her son who had been tragically burned a few years ago. She managed to lose all but 20 pounds.

That's when Worcester stopped reaching for a bag of chips and started reaching for Power Pops. "The last 20 pounds are from Power Pops and I kept it off. And, I keep shedding weight," she said...

But Gloria Cameron of Bedford says she's finally licking her weight problem—one lollipop at a time.

"I've lost 13 pounds, but I've dropped a pant size," Cameron said. "I haven't done that in 10 years."

After a friend suggested it, Cameron tried Power-Pops. The product claims to be the "Most powerful way to suppress appetite and get a burst of energy."

Directions on the package say dieters need only suck on a pop for 30 minutes, three times a day, and drink two, eight-ounce glasses of water with each lollipop...

Hoodia, A South African Plant, Marketed As Appetite Suppressant

(CBS4) BOSTON A new fad in dieting – hoodia – exploded after 60 Minutes did a piece on the supplement. It now comes in a candy form – Power Pops, which claim to taste great and suppress appetite. CBS4’s Sara Underwood put the pops to the test.

Hoodia is an herb from South Africa that only grows in the Kalahari Desert. Bushman there eat the plants to prevent hunger on long trips, by shaving off the thorns and sucking on the plant.

Most Hoodia products come in capsules, but the makers of power pops say their product has a distinct advantage.

"We have the only product in the world that has the form of hoodia in it the same way the South Africans are taking it by sucking on it,” said Power Pops creator, Mike Wenniger.

And Wenninger say that's not all. They also give you energy.
